Club Red Volleyball

Championship tournament #1 was held on Jan. 21 and two Club Red teams (16-Andrew & 14-Ben) won their divisions.  The 16-Sonia & 13-Steve teams also had a good day – qualifying to play in Championship the rest of the year.

The Club Red 18-Jason team won the first region tournament of the year in convincing fashion – dropping only one set on the day.  On the day, the team Sided-Out over 70% of the time and held opponents below 50%.

With most of last year’s team back, the tournament marked the introduction of the “newbies” on the team – Abby Brewer, Alyssa Gibson, Samantha Hedlund, and Kayla Lederer – and they played tremendously.  With the addition of these very talented players, the team proved to be incredibly strong & deep.

Next up for the 18-Jason team – playing in the MLK tournament this weekend in southern California, where they will compete against some of the best teams in the country

Club Red still has a few openings for players in 18s, 16s, & 15s.  Our secondary tryout is Nov. 20 – registration at 1:00 and tryout at 1:30.  Tryouts will be held at Court One.

In preparation for the upcoming club season, Club RED will be hosting Open Gyms on Thursday Nov. 10th (5:30-7:30pm), Tuesday Nov 15th (7:00-9:00) and Thursday Nov 17th (5:30-7:30pm).  Admission is only $5.00 and will be held at Court One.

We have two more Open Gyms for kids in Jr. High and younger…. Our normal Thursday Open Gym will be on Oct. 27th from 6:30-8:30.  Additionally, we will have an Open Gym on Sunday, Oct. 30 from 1:00-3:00.  Our Open Gyms will be held at Court One, 9100 S. McKemy, Tempe.

Open Gym will be from 6:30 – 8:30 at Court One in Tempe with Admission being only $5.

Club Red setter, Bianca Arellano, was named AVCA Arizona Player of the Week for the week finishing on 10/8.  Bianca’s Xavier team went 3-0 during their week matches (including a win in a revenge match over Horizon) then won the Goldwater tournament, beating Horizon in the finals.  Bianca’s totals for the week were: 195 Assists, 33 Digs, 14 Kills, 11 Blocks, & 8 Aces.

The Club Red Boys 18s won Division I and the 16s won Div III of the AZ Region’s #2 tournament this past Saturday.  The 18s will be ranked #1 and the 16s advance to Div II at the next region tournament, which will be held on Oct. 22nd.  Great job guys!!!

Club Red will be hosting Open Gyms at Court One every Thursday evening in October, starting on the 6th.  Times will be from 6:30-8:30 and admission will be $5 per player.  This is for Jr. High students and younger.  We look forward to seeing you at Court One!
